Redhead Makeup Tips- Celebrity Makeup Artist Joanna Schlip Shares Her Secrets

Redhead makeup tips can be intimidating for even the most cosmetic savvy of us. Many wonder what foundation is the best, how to showcase freckles and if redheads can wear colored makeup, like bright eyeshadow and lipstick. To help us tackle all questions, we turned to Joanna Schlip, Celebrity Makeup Artist for Physicians Formula, for the top three makeup tips for redheads.

1. “Show off a radiant complexion (and let freckles show through) by using a tinted moisturizer or BB Cream.  It will provide coverage without being heavy or cakey.  Remember to opt for your skin tone, not your freckle tone!

2. “Redheads with super fair lashes can still wear black mascara. For me, it’s all about the amount rather than the color.  If using black, apply one sheer swipe.  If you’re looking to create more volume, opt for a dark brown.”

3. “Redheads can absolutely wear color, and they should!  Although earth tones work well too, redheads look great with a colorful eye or lip.  Try a lavender, turquoise or royal blue shadow or liner with a nude lip or a simple eye with a pop of red lipstick. Don’t be shy!”

Rock it like a Redhead!

I use a $12 Garnier BB cream and it works better than the $40 Smashbox “photoready” foundation. Also I have found rosewater lip liner from Narz and Covergirl lip stain in “teasing blush” work great with a copper and cream complexion.

Hi, I’ve spent LOTS of money on foundations over the years and find the cheap Bourgeois 3-in-1 current foundation liquid very good. In shade 51. It is far better than Bobbi Brown, Mac, Clinique, Lancome or Estee Lauder…

As for colour, don’t be put off by anti-redhead ‘advice’ you may have heard – try lots of things – for example, buy very cheap lipsticks to experiment with colour and then buy a good quality one after you have discovered your favourite(s). Same with eyeshadows.

Anyway, we are all different shades of red and with different skin tones as well as eye colour. So be bold and have fun. In front of the mirror. Then stick with what you think suits you.

I’ve had really good luck with the Dr Jart BB cream and the Supergoop CC cream. The Supergoop is a bit darker so it’s my summer go-to. I love colorful eyes!

I also have blonde eyebrows and tried so many products before finally finding my holy grail eyebrow powder. Anastasia Beverly Hills in Caramel. The color is perfect, natural looking and so easy to use. Very forgiving when learning to fill in your brows.
