Like the Stars: How to Make Your Eyes Look Bigger

Celebrities always appear to have beautifully, defined eyes; they are either large & smokey, large & flirtatious and/or large & sparkling. Think: Christina Hendricks! How does this happen? Well, makeup artists have ways of illuminating the eye to attract notice.

The tricks are easy to replicate at home. All you need to do is buy the right tools, learn to use it well and your eyes will soon have the same fabulous, celebrity effect.

Practice these techniques:

1. Curl eyelashes with eyelash curler and mascara

An eyelash curler is a necessary instrument for any woman; irrespective of the length, thickness and shape of her eyelashes. You can either curl your eyelashes before or after the application the mascara. As long as the mascara has dried, there is no need to worry about the eyelash curler smudging your mascara.

Some women subject their eyelash curler to the warm blast of a hair dryer to for three seconds to give it extra staying power. But, be careful that the eyelash curler doesn’t get too hot!

As for lower lashes, it is entirely up to your discretion. Makeup artists tend to avoid mascara on the lower lashes, claiming it causes narrowing of the eyes. The effect has been observed in some women, but not in all. Certain women have a special eye shape so mascara and eyeliner on the lower lashes adds a dramatic flair. You have to be the judge on whether it will look good on you.

2. False eyelashes are attention-grabbing

Considering the variety featured in stores (different colors, embellishments and more!), false eyelashes are flattering and heavily open up the eye. Many women attest to the fact that false eyelashes clearly define their eyes.

Tip: Pick eyelashes that are natural-looking, short, slightly curled and add volume.  They can be either full eyelashes or individual eyelashes. Whichever you choose, make sure they are complementary. If false eyelashes are too long, cut them with scissors.

3. White eyeshadow to brighten eyes

Apply a little white light eyeshade on the inside ridge of your eyes, at the place where the upper lid falls to the bottom lid, closer to the tear ducts. The dab of white brightens the eyes and lends them a white sheen. For a doe-eyed look that oozes elegance, streak your lower lids with a creamy white eye pencil.

4. Eyelid health for skin tightness

The chemicals in makeup can play havoc on your skin, especially if makeup application is an everyday occurrence.

The best solution to skin degradation is to start using special eye firming cream. This advice is more imperative for those women of Asian heritage as their eyes are more susceptible to sagging eyelid skin. If you start early, you can be assured of prolonged elasticity of the eyelid skin, allowing you to display bright, large eyes for years.

5. Highlighter and foundation to reflect

-Brush a highlighter across your brow bone; blend a path down your eyelids. The powder will reflect the light to enhance the entire eye area.

-The application of foundation all over your eyelids, a little sprinkle to the mid lengths of your eyelashes, will give an even base for the introduction of mascara. Heighten the allure.

These makeup tips are all you need to flaunt your beautiful, big eyes and red hair. You can captivate anyone with eyes that speak a silent language!
