TGIT! How excited are we that Shondaland is finally back to fill our Thursday nights? If you don’t know, ShondaLand is an American television production company founded by television writer/producer Shonda Rhimes. She is widely known as the creator of the hit shows, Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal.
I know many of us tuned in this week to catch up with all our favorite television heroines: Meredith Grey, Annalise Keating, Olivia Pope, and of course the redheaded, Abby Whelan (Darby Stanchfield).
I’ll admit, I sit on the edge of my sofa every week, eagerly anticipating how Olivia will handle her latest scandal, but equally thrilling for me is the anticipation of Abby’s latest (red) hairstyle. There are times when her red hair is so on point it even outshines Olivia Pope’s blinding white outfits.
So, in honor of the incomparable Shonda Rhimes, Season 5 of Scandal, and redheads around the world, let’s take a look at 5 times when Abby Whelan’s hair stole the show.
Season 1:
Does everyone remember Stephen, Abby’s love interest from Season 1? No? Me neither. But, what I do remember is Abby’s no-nonsense, straight-forward mindset and the straight red hair that went along with it. Sorry Stephen–you’ve got a decent head of hair, but it was definitely out-shined this season.

Season 2:
In the second season, we get to see some flashbacks of Fitz’s campaign trail to the White House. Olivia busts on to the scene with a forehead full of bangs, but still can’t outdo Abby with her pulled-back and gently-tousled curls.
Season 3:
I cannot get enough of this Season 3 look from Abby! It may be my favorite. Olivia’s hair was definitely on point this season, but Abby’s side-parted, loose, red waves are scandalous perfection!

Season 4:
Abby is now working at the White House as the Press Secretary, and such a serious job calls for serious hair. In Season 4, she experiments with a hairstyle that is mostly straight, but slightly rebellious, flipped at the ends and super shiny. The same could be said of Abby’s attitude this season.
