I Learned to Love My Redhead Life!
I Learned to Love My Redhead Life!
By: Nicole
Being a light skinned African American redhead was bitter sweet. Not only was my skin different than the majority in my race, but also my hair. In my early school years, I had to endure name calling and teasing. Being young, I just couldn’t understand what was “wrong” with me. As I got older and entered high school, I saw a broad range of beauty and came to the realization that my uniqueness is a gift. I would study the models in fashion magazines whose features were similar to mine. I would take note of whatever eye shadows, lipsticks, and/or colors that accentuated their appearance and then I would try those same colors on me. Through trial and error, I learned what to highlight and what to avoid on me, personally.
Now at the age of 35, I can truly say I LOVE my redhead “way of life”!
